We start with CAF's press release to make some changes to the African Cup of Nations (0:38). Mainly the switch to a summer tournament (sigh of relief) among others. Do we like the proposed changes? Are they smart? Are there a few headscratchers?

The NBA Summer League ended with the Lakers ending up as Champions. We look at the big standouts and disappointments from the tournament. Lonzo Ball, Dennis Smith Jnr, and De'Aaron Fox get some mentions (9:45).

The NBA Draft Explained

Show begins with the hosts introducing themselves (1:00) and Cyril suggests videogames as a great way to understand the rules of a sport, Moos explains how draft order is determined every season in the NBA (5:00) and also how the Celtics got the Number 1 pick this season.

Cyril and Moos are at odds with Kevin Durant's draft stock entering his draft class (9:00) as well as the draft evaluation processes (11:00). Draymond and Isaiah being player's whose draft spots motivated them to become better players and prove GMs wrong for passing up on them. Moos gets in a snide Celtics jab (15:30) and makes a hypothetical European Soccer draft (16:00).

Donald goes ahead to surprise everyone with his pick for favourite player this year (17:00) and Cyril tries to discredit the defensive games of certain 2nd year players and Moos crowns a current players as the best player he's watched (26:00).

Moos describes a few of the best draft prospects this year and their future NBA player projections (27:00), a list that includes, Markelle Fultz, Lonzo Ball, Josh Jackson, Dennis Smith Jr. Cyril tries to trash the skillsets of a certain well touted prospect (32:00) and Moos recollects a few European players who were passed up on but have become really good players for their teams (34:00).

Correction : Jimmy Butler was a 1st Round pick in the 2011 NBA Draft and not a 2nd Round pick as was stated (13:19) in this episode.

We talked about the unstoppable juggernauts that are Warriors and the Lebron-led Cavs, IT's ascension into bonafide superstar status after his Tooth game, Spurs surprising no one by doing Spurs things, and try to figure out why the NBA seems to not bother with certain calls.

We go over the sport stories making the rounds in Predict The Play (8:02). The team channel their inner Mystic Meg and give their takes on the future of Lonzo Ball's Big Baller Brand (8:24), manager Steve Bruce's rough press conference look (10:22), Wenger's reveal that he he let another wonderkid slip through his hands (11:56), Zlatan's next step (13:36), Neymar's dance with Lady Justice (15:17), Donald's wild transfer triangle proposal (16:58) and Christian Atsu's possible career trajectory.

Our launch into our main topic for this episode, should football go all out with video assistant referees (VAR) (21:07)? Donald raises some concerns about adopting VAR (23:09) and presents a nightmare scenario and Cyril attempts to assuage his fears (24:35) by outlying specific instances and moments in the game that VAR will be called upon.

With enough time still on the clock, the team butt heads on diving in football (32:42). Not everyone on the ATW team is fussy about players looking to take advantage of refs by simulating and exaggerating their fall and contact with opponents.

We start off the show by sharing their thoughts on long range shots (1:01) who their favourite dead-ball specialists are (6:30) , which turns into a discussion on whether a deal-ball specialist footballers should be accommodated in teams (10:10). We touch on a recent ATW favourite, Romelu Lukaku (15:10) and the stories that have come out in the papers about him in light of his contract impasse at Everton.

Zaha's choice to play for the Ivory Coast over England has caused some pundits to question his decision in the papers (19:10) after a string of good performances. We discuss whether he took a step down for International caps or not, and touch on a few player's choosing to play for their African home nations (25:01). We jump into the Weakest Link theory of football and discuss whether we believe it truly holds (26:30) for the sport as opposed to Basketball which is seen as a Strong Link Sport in that regard. Cyril believes West Brom is the archetypal "Average PL side" (32:00) and we talk about how it applies to a few teams in the Premier League.

The show ends (40:30) with Moos giving a little primer on the surprise topic for next week's podcast.

The first few questions have the guys telling us who their picks for PFA Player of the year is outside Kante (6:15) Moos shares a hot take on who he thinks the best young player is (9:20) and thoughts on player consistency are shared (12:00). The team shares they're thoughts on Barca's 5-1 comeback against PSG in the Champions League (16:45). We have a humorous discussion on Testimonial matches for players (20:50) and Arsenal's defense at set pieces is called into question. (24:00) We sink our teeth into Liverpool and share thoughts on their mercurial midfielder Coutinho (28:50). The Lukaku transfer sweepstakes are the next topic we touch on. Is he really that good ? Can he do better than Everton (33:15)?

Is Luke Shaw on his way out of MUFC (41:00)? How the show hosts would like their final game to go as a player (43:10). We share our thoughts on Pogba's performance so far this season (44:30) as well as Ghana's preparation for the World Cup in 2018 (46:20). A question on FPL has the us reliving our best and worst gameweeks (48:20) before delving into the NBA section of the mailbag with thoughts on Rookie of the year (49:45) and who they think is the #1 pick in the upcoming draft (51:30) which get's Moos uncharacteristically excited for some reason.

The team then answers an interesting question on whether one of the Cavs or Warriors will fail to make the finals this season (55:40) Talented young teams and nba fights get a few mentions too (1:01:10). To end the show Donald has a soccer rules trivia question for his co-hosts (1:02:10) who fail miserably and need to be salvaged by the quizmaster.

Debating The Value Of Individual Awards And Walking A Step In An Arsenal Fan's Shoe

We start the show with a quick recap of the last episode (0:18) and lunge right into this week's main topic, should individual awards in team sports be scrapped (0:29)? We give our individual reasons for why we voted for individual awards to either stay or go (1:53) and begin our discussion. There is a clash of ideologies in the studio as a line is drawn between the self-proclaimed pragmatists and the lone idealist (11:10) in the studio.

The final votes are tallied (35:06) and we continue onto our final discussion of the episode, Alex Sanchez. With rumours making the rounds about his discontent at Arsenal, we speculate at what point we, the ATW team, placing ourselves in Arsenal fans shoes for a couple of minutes (37:00), be OK with Sanchez forcing a move. As a fan would you still expect a player to stay even after agreeing with the reasons they want out? We do our best to answer this question. The team gives their closing comments regarding Sanchez as we wrap up (46:31) and we end the episode with a promise we fully intend to keep (48:45).

African Players : The Perception. The ATW Team Discusses What's True? What's Not? We Ask Why And How This Is Still A Thing.

The ATW team catches up (0:12) before launching this week's major discussion — the perception of the African athlete. We widen our scope to include athletes of African descent and Black athletes as well (1:02). Moos answers the question; should some of the positive descriptors used be embraced (2:58)? And Donald reminds us that sports is a reflection of society (11:56). We discuss how these generally held opinions are affecting the next generation (15:10). Are we losing out on potential talent because they don't meet the criteria set for black players?

With great power, come great responsibility and the media in relation to sport is one of the major stakeholders. We dig into why the media disproportionately reports negative stories regarding black players and the effect it has on the players (18:49). We talk NBA for a while, and ask why black players & coaches in a predominantly black league (23:03) face challenges breaking into management positions (25:50). We elicit some advice from the late Biggie Smalls (32:54) as Donald redirects the discussion back to football and asks if African footballers opt to play as 'water carriers' simply because these are the opportunities available to them (34:33) and their only chance at success in their careers.

We wrap up this episode discussing F.C. Barcelona's decision to open a football academy in Nigeria (40:34). Who knows? Maybe this could lead to a change in the narrative of Africans just seen as big, strong & energetic players as the academy will be looking to develop all the skill set needed to succeed in football.

It's playoffs prediction time the the team duly responds by getting out their crystal balls as they review a stacked Western Conference and tip the Wizards as a potential banana skin for the Cavs (22:19).

Switching gears to Football, we discuss Leicester City firing the coach that brought them the impossible dream (30:17) and ask if players exerting too much influence in the boardroom (33:50)? As foreign fans, the ATW team discusses if our inability to regularly go to a live game should counts against us as fans (17:56) and figure out why basketball appears to be more welcoming to foreign fans than football (20:01).

Anyone else feel annoyed by 'new' fans who skip all the difficult, barren years and jump right into the success years (24:49)? We also review the week's headlines (28:34) and end the episode wondering how Wenger keeps getting it wrong.

Welcome to our maiden episode!! We jump right in and discuss the just ended AFCON tournament(0:44) and follow that up by discussing players with dual nationalities who decide to play for African nations (4:26)*. Is it fair to question their patriotism? Should Africans be fussing over being treated as a plan B for players who want to have an international career seeing as they can improve the national team?

Donald proposed a rule change to FIFA's Eligibility rules (17:33) and we go a bit more into the issue of commitment (19:49). Are African born players really that MUCH more committed?

With Avram Grant resigning as the national team coach, we use this as an opportunity to have an in-house build-a-coach workshop (22:33). The ATW team identifies the Black Star's major weaknesses and The ATW has a build-a-coach workshop and also identify major weaknesses of the Ghana Black Stars.
