What is the meaning of "woke" or "wokeism"? Well, that's the topic of this mashup - our first-ever themed mashup release.

We are revisiting AI podcasting in this Yesticle as a sequel to the AI-scripted one (Episode 45). First up, imagine stepping into someone else's shoes, quite literally! They dove headfirst into the unknown by swapping roles and embracing the chaos of being each other. Let's just say it was a wild ride!

And then came the culinary chaos! Saying 'Yes!' to being a chef meant facing off against their culinary fears, from flambe disasters to soufflé meltdowns (in their own heads). Gordon Ramsay would've had a field day with their kitchen anxieties!

Then, things got a little more melodious as they tackled the daunting task of learning a musical instrument. Spoiler alert: they pulled some strings.

Next, they embarked on a journey of inclusivity by saying 'Yes!' to learning sign language. Let's just say that communicating with their hands opened up a whole new world of expression!

Oh, and who could forget their stint in the world of PR? From crafting the perfect press release to mastering the art of persuasive writing, they discovered that there's a whole lot more to PR than meets the eye. Talk about spin doctoring with style!

Last but not least, they tackled the ultimate fear for most humans on this earth: public speaking. Armed with courage and a healthy dose of "ah-counter" fright, they took to the podium and embraced the power of their voices. Who knew stuttering through speeches/panels could be so empowering?

Here's how it happened. While they were busy prepping another Yes challenge related to the public (i.e. Public Relations) at Baraza Media Lab, they stumbled upon a Toastmasters International meeting and right there, with a brilliant stroke of luck, the final piece of this challenge's puzzle fit right in.

Claire and Akumu then proceeded to Yes-fully ambush the leader of that lucky and extremely talented group, none other than Japheth Musau, the District Director for East and Central Africa. Japheth was gracious enough to invite them into the meeting and offer tips for their public speaking engagements later that week at an Afripods/Baraza Media Lab event.

Like all other Season six Yeses, this was meant to be a one-day challenge. But joining an unplanned club meeting on a Tuesday evening and being an actual public speaker on a Thursday evening makes up a day, right? Right!?

So yes, it's your lucky day. From understanding the fear of public speaking to mastering the art of captivating an audience, this episode is packed with eye-opening revelations and practical advice. It was an easy choice as an option for this season because the wildcard for the next 5 episodes is to see what can be achieved WITHIN a single day while doing, being, and learning something new. So unlike all previous YESpisodes, Season six challenges were done in a few hours.

And yes, this was the longest of this season's challenges. That's because for Claire to be Akumu and Akumu to be Claire, there was a list of guidelines to follow for an entire day, i.e. from morning to evening hours.

Guiding Akumu in her pursuit of happiness is Faith Nyoike. Faith Nyoike has handled freelance individual therapy, as well as family and marital counselling. She has also conducted corporate therapy consultations and various strategic partnerships in Mombasa County, where she is based. She is currently the Founder and Lead Therapist at Shin Wellness.

Faith gave Akumu the following tasks to attempt for this challenge for 1-2 weeks:

Take yourself out, alone.
Start an exercise regimen.
Plan or purpose to let go of a grudge or someone who pissed you off.
Have a week where you will purpose to get 8 hours of sleep every day.
Plan to give to a cause or give your resources.

39. Coffee is proof that baristas love us and want us to be happy! w/ Ritesh Doshi & Martin Makau

Coffee is life, right? Especially for Claire Baker, who, by the way, almost worships coffee and who is, for this episode, saying YES to learning barista skills and finding out a whole lot more about the details of this world-famous beverage.

Similar to Season 2, only one of the girls is saying YES to each challenge, and uniquely, this Season features not just one but TWO experts.

For this particular challenge, Claire had to learn as much as she could about the coffee-making process, but she got a couple of surprises along the way because there's a lot more that goes into making a single cup of coffee, way before it gets to the barista's to-do list.

The first expert that Claire got a masterclass from is Martin the Barista, aka Martin M. Makau, from Masai Coffee. Masai Coffee is a brand of Goldrock International. They are a Kenyan-based coffee company that has also forayed into the world of tea and leather artisanal goods, but coffee is its lifeblood. Martin is both a trained barista and a barista trainer.

The second expert for this episode is Ritesh Doshi. Ritesh is the owner and CEO of Spring Valley Coffee, which is fast becoming a household name in Kenya for its expertly sourced, roasted, and packaged coffee beans and ground coffee, as well as for its boutique coffee shops dotted around Nairobi.

38. Poetic justice: a rap mission w/ Juliani & Tonii Vendetta

As the Season 5 debut, the Yes Girls say yes to learning how to rap. But actually, just one of them said YES to this challenge: Akumu.

Certainly the perfect way to start a season where each Yes Girl only does half of the challenges (similar to Season 2). But the unique thing this time though is that there are more experts for each challenge!

You should know that Akumu went into this with no rapping experience - just a deep fear of poetry and a cult-like admiration for hip-hoppers and rappers.

And for this particular challenge, unlike most others, it did not take a week or a couple of weeks to get done. All it took was an entire day (i.e. a rap boot camp) with two of the most talented hip-hop artists in Kenya: Juliani and Tonii Vendetta.

Juliani is easily Kenya's rap and hip-hop godfather, an activist in his own right, and a well-known artist mentor. Tonii Vendetta, on the other hand, is a singer/songwriter, DJ, rapper, music producer, filmmaker, director, DOP, video editor, photographer, a model---- just to name a few.

They both helped Akumu write and cook up the lyrics of her very first rap song as well as her final performance which you will get to listen to (within this episode) in its fully-produced glory flanked by Tonii's newly-minted beats and "hype man" sound effects: the song is titled: Season Ya "Mayoo" ("Mayoo" is a Luo exclamation).

31. Kizomba with Kenya's Afro-Latin dance community - because life needs a little more hip motion!

This is a big one! The Yes Girls say yes to doing kizomba! The perfect way to end Season 4!

Quick correction: Angola is south of DRC and West of Zambia (not East, as said in the episode).

It's worth noting that Akumu went into this challenge with Salsa, Bachata, and Merengue knowledge, while Claire went in with some Mexican and Kenyan" swaying of the hips".

For this particular YES challenge, they each had to acquire the basic steps necessary for Kizomba both as beginners and as gliding females (and follows) on an actual dancefloor.

The unique thing about this challenge was that there wasn't just one expert but an entire community! Yup! The vibrant Afro-Latin Dance Community in Nairobi and beyond.

These experts, ranging from coaches to dance enthusiasts, gave them all the information and tips necessary to immerse them into the world of Kizomba properly.

For the fourth episode of Season 4, the Yes Girls say "yes" to learning about cryptocurrency alongside Erick Asuma of Kenyan Wallstreet. They did this by taking two weeks to put in a bit of their own money in Bitcoin, the most well-known type of cryptocurrency to invest in.

But to get this two-week challenge appropriately done, they needed to learn how to buy Bitcoin and open accounts with either Binance, Local Bitcoins, or Paxful. Akumu, on the other hand, opened an account with Coinbase. That means part of this challenge was about them staying informed about the bitcoin price/value, plus bitcoin news, and trying their hand at bitcoin price predictions.

As mentioned, this episode's guest expert is Erick Asuma, co-founder and CEO of Hisa Technologies. Hisa is Africa's first wealth management platform that makes investing social. It allows users access to different investment options like stocks and ETFs. It also provides educational content like news, podcasts and user-generated discussions to improve users' financial literacy.

Erick is also the founder of Kenyan Wallstreet, a leading integrated digital media content platform providing in-depth business news and finance news across Sub-Saharan Africa and the globe.

28. CrossFit: Where every rep counts, especially the ones you'd rather skip! w/ Tanya Alvis & First Power Fitness

For the third episode of Season 4, the Yes Girls say "yes" to doing CrossFit! And you know how DOING challenges go - it's all about the sweat of getting down and dirty with something new, and boy, was this sweaty and NEW!

But to get this challenge done properly, they needed to look for CrossFit "Boxes" near them and one such place that was happy to help was First Power Fitness, a world-class fitness facility & CrossFit gym, based in Nairobi. First Power offered the Yes Girls one month of full-access membership to learn the ropes.

The First Power facility that the girls used is based at Galleria Mall and caters to Karen, Langata and the surrounding neighbourhoods. It's over 900 square meters (10,000+ sq. feet) of space, dedicated to CrossFit, PowerFit, Olympic Weightlifting and Open Gym. Best of all, the First Power staff is made up of highly experienced and qualified coaches who hold a variety of certifications that make the facility the most diverse gym in the area.

So for this challenge, the girls had to attend intro classes as a CrossFit for beginners baptism and then thereafter attend a couple more classes within that one-month free membership to get a feel of the official CrossFit workouts and understand what this sport/workout is all about.

Their attempts were driven by the fact that they both came in not knowing too much about the sport. Possibly only that it's "tough and cool".

And so, they were excited to take on the challenge! CrossFit for beginners!

What was waiting for them as they went in was a large number of strange terms whether it was the exercise list, the official CrossFit workouts, or CrossFit equipment, and very interesting vocabulary.

On hand to guide the Yes Girls through the entire process were all the amazing First Power coaches: Lauren, Bryant, Collins, Boni, Chris, Will, Rutivi, and the in-studio guest expert for this episode, Tanya Alvis.

Tanya is a First Power coach, CrossFit athlete, badass superwoman, and now an honorary Yes Girl! She ends the episode by giving the girls ratings for their beginner efforts.

26. Not good at yoga. Sometimes, I feel like a poser w/ Nisha Parikh

For this first episode of Season 4, the Yes Girls say "Yes" to being yogis or better yet, yoginis! And since this is a BEING challenge, it meant taking charge of more than just a few yoga exercises, yoga poses or handling a couple of minutes of mindfulness meditation.

A BEING challenge means so much more than that. And this one certainly did.

It meant merging some not-so-obvious yoga benefits with some quite-obvious-yet-surprising meditation benefits into one. And all of that into a two-week-long 6 am practice that included not just any type of yoga but the one and only Surya Namaskar, which translates to "Sun Salutation".

But first things first - they needed some answers and quite a lot of guidance regarding how to get started with yoga as more than just a form of exercise, how to get started with meditation, yoga for beginners, yoga for health, guided meditation, the best meditations, types of yoga, types of meditations, meditation techniques for beginners, meditations techniques for mental health, plus meditation and mindful apps.

They needed to know more.

And who better to ask than a mindfulness practitioner from the birthplace of the practice itself?

Nisha Parikh is a Hyderabad-based yoga and mindfulness enthusiast and soon-to-be certified expert who merges that practice with a professional and academic background in Psychology.

Beyond that, she's also a marketing and talent management professional. She is a mentor to many in her capacity as the Vice President of Marketing and HR at Telebu Communications.

As the guest expert, Nisha offered the girls a mind, body and soul regimen, plus some guidance, and off they went in their attempts to become "yoginis"!

In this final one of Season 3, the Yes Girls say "yes" to DJing! For this DOING challenge, they attempted to step into the shoes of their favourite DJs (and maybe even their worst) and they did this with absolutely zero prior knowledge.

Their attempts were driven by the fact that they both thought they knew better or hoped to become better than those who they feel do the DJing craft (and their audiences) wrong.

And so, they took on the challenge for a week!

The questions they wanted to answer were: what does it take to become a DJ or to learn how to DJ? Can you learn it for free or online or do you necessarily need the equipment? How much can you learn from a few days of using Virtual DJ? And what DJ advice do beginners or amateurs need?

On hand to guide the Yes Girls through the entire process and to answer these critical questions was guest expert (a DJ, as well as a podcaster and radio personality) Andy Young aka Candy Andy (Instagram: @andy_young254).

You may know him from Homeboyz radio where he is a regular, or you may have partied to his DJ skills at an event or party. You may even have listened to him on his podcasts (with a suite of other well-known names on radio): The Mics Are Open and another one called The Chop Shop. These are two amazing podcast recommendations for your ears.

Candy Andy offered the girls the guidance they needed, and off they went in their attempts to become the best amateur DJs they could be!

In this fifth episode of Season 3, the Yes Girls say "yes" to their most challenging "being" episode yet! They both say "YES" to being activists.

But what exactly does being an activist mean? What does it entail, and what are some types of activism? The Yes Girls explore answers to all of these questions, including why activism is important, how to be an activist on social media, and if anyone can be one.

So for this challenge, the girls had one week to step into the shoes of activists by focusing on topics of their choice. Claire chose to handle the water shortage situation in her local area, while Akumu chose to handle mental health awareness.

On hand to guide them through the entire process was the guest expert for this episode, Boniface Mwangi (Instagram: @bonifacemwangi).

From being an artist himself & travelling the world as a documentary photographer; to promoting the arts in Kenya through a groundbreaking creative space; fighting corruption every day; holding Kenyan public officials to account; seeking political office, and founding a political party. He offered the girls the guidance they needed, and off they went into their 1-week challenge to become some version of Boniface Mwangi with their topic of choice.

In this fourth instalment of Season 3, the girls say "yes" to a highly technical and sort-after 21st-century skill! For this LEARNING episode, they attempt to step into the shoes of someone highly skilled. They both say "YES" to learning sound (audio) production. Psst! Sound engineers, watch out!

But wait! Is it really sound production they got up to? Or was it sound engineering? Or sound design? Let's unpack that, shall we?

Sound engineering is the branch of engineering in which professionals work on the technicality of sound and mainly ensure tracks sound good to the ear.

Sound/audio engineers have three primary jobs in a studio setup: editing, mixing and mastering. Such a career path can lead to you becoming an audiovisual designer, a production engineer, or an audio technician.

Sound (audio) production - the term used in this episode - is often used interchangeably with "music production," but they're pretty different.

Sound (audio) production is the entire process of recording audio and editing it to make it sound a certain way.

On the other hand, sound design is the process of recording, acquiring, manipulating, or generating audio elements.

So what the Yes Girls focused on for this challenge was sound design and audio post-production.

They selected an under-a-minute video clip from the Jim Carrey movie, Yes Man (for obvious reasons!). They then worked on removing, isolating, normalising and inserting different sound elements and effects that were not already in it.

On hand to guide them through the entire process was guest expert Peddo Brian (Instagram: @peddobrian).

Peddo is a sound producer, a teacher, a songwriter, a guitar player and a recording artist with a fantastic voice. He is also mentioned in EVERY episode as the maestro who composed and recorded this podcast's theme song - in case you haven't noticed.

He offered the girls some guidance, and off they went into their 1-week challenge to become amateur sound designers!

In this third episode of Season 3, the Yes Girls say "yes" to something everyone who's anyone wants to get better at! This is a BEING episode, meaning they both say "YES" to being organised!

But what exactly does it mean to "be organised"? Because it is such a broad topic?! Well, they each approached it from different angles depending on an area of their lives that they thought seriously needed help in terms of organisational tips, tricks or systems.

Akumu decided to tackle the question of "how to organise your life" with regard to how she managed her goals on a day-to-day basis. Claire, on the other hand, decided to tackle organisation in her physical spaces at home.

On hand to guide them through the process was guest expert Toni Crow. Toni is a leadership coach and SO MUCH MORE. Toni offered them some guidance, and off they went into their 1-week challenge to become more organised and productive in life or be more organised at home!

In this second episode of Season 3, the Yes Girls say "yes" to something they've both never done before very consciously. They both say "YES" to learning how to manage their money better!

They have never really sat down to think about the money mindsets that control how they handle their money, and how that affects their overall money management skills. So for this episode, they reflect and share how they found themselves managing money as children, teenagers, students, and even as mini-adults in their 20s!

Joining them both in this journey is guest expert Lydia Andrews (Instagram: @LydiaElim), who is a Wealth Advisor with Holborn Assets & a Personal Wealth Coach and Founder of Love Yourself Financially. She is based in Abu Dhabi but is originally from Canada and has roots in Ghana.

So for an entire 10-day period, the Yes Girls - Akumu, and Claire had a huge challenge ahead of them. They had to fill in the questionnaire and challenge sheet Lydia created for them. After the 10 days, they discussed their experiences and received ratings and feedback on what they learnt about their money management mindsets and the specific actions they were asked to undertake for the challenge.

This episode is excellent for anyone keen on learning tips and tricks on how to manage money better.

In this episode, as in all episodes of Season 2, only one Yes Girl takes on the challenge while the other becomes the resident expert or "know-it-all"! For this episode, Akumu says yes to being an online tour guide i.e. becoming an expert on a certain place and bringing others along for the journey via what used to be HeyGo.com!

This is something Claire had been doing for a while and she was quite good at it! As an expert at hosting HeyGo Tours, she was great at giving some much-needed online tour guide tips!

For this challenge, Akumu had to prepare an informative script while Claire guided her and created the tour promo on her account. The wildcard addition to this challenge was the guest Yes Girl - Adhiambo Agoro (Instagram: @agoro_), who is a hiker, content creator, and all-around inspirational person.

In this episode, as in all episodes of Season 2, only one Yes Girl takes on the challenge of saying Yes to learning social media management while the other becomes the resident expert or "know-it-all"! Yup, Claire says yes to ideally posting like a maniac & growing her account for two long weeks.

What this means is she tries her hand doing social media influencer tactics for that period, under the guidance of Akumu whose day job and hobby allow her to do this without too much agony.

The best part of this challenge is the addition of two guests - honorary Yes Boy and Girl - Max Vajra James and Maria Langat, who host a YouTube channel aptly named "Confused But Excited".

8. We started pole dancing for the 'flex' appeal! w/ Kate Ladash

In this episode, where the girls say "yes" to pole dancing, things are a little different, like they are in all of Season 2! Instead of both doing something they've never done before, only one takes on the challenge while the other stands in as the expert or "know-it-all"!

For this one, Akumu says yes to doing pole dancing! She learnt some pole dancing moves under the guidance of Claire - who offers great pole dancing lessons - by the way.

The guest Yes Girl - Kate Ladash (Instagram- @kateladash) - is a wildcard addition to this challenge, meaning she also joins the pole dancing class held at Poles Apart Studio (Instagram: @polesapartstudio) in Nairobi.

Listen in for the fears, trepidations and triumphs of both Akumu and Kate as they take on this new skill and why Claire thinks everyone should consider trying their hand or rather, their hands, at pole fitness i.e. its benefits.

This episode also tackles the fact that pole dance as we know it, usually gets a bad rap and has been sexualised a bit too much. The Yes Girls have never coded in their lives. Or have they? Well, the thing is, they have never really coded an entire website from scratch. Or rather a semblance of a website.

So they got some help and advice from guest expert Joseph Murgor of MobiDev who suggested that they focus on HTML and CSS which are a good place to start.
