On June 4, 2004, in Ragati Village in Nyeri District, a young mother named Jane Muriruki was the last person seen carrying her sick one-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Mary Wanja. She told neighbors she was taking the child to the hospital — but later returned alone, offering conflicting explanations about where the child had gone.

The next day, the child's body was discovered floating in a cattle dip. A postmortem revealed the cause of death was strangulation, not drowning, suggesting the little girl had been killed before her body was discarded. Suspicion quickly turned to the mother, who had been the last known person with the child alive.

To support the podcast:

Follow us on:

Tiktok: crimesandconske

Insta: crimeandconske

FB and Youtube: Crime and Consequence KE

Podcast Available on Afripods, Apple Podcast, Castbox, Spotify and creatorsphilosophy.org

A Kshs 20 dispute at a small hotel turns deadly. After a brief confrontation over unpaid meat, Timothy leaves Bam Bam Hotel only to be found later with a fatal stab wound to the chest. Police arrest Charles, the meat vendor, but no one ever sees the stabbing, forensic evidence is mishandled, and key witnesses refuse to testify. In court, the prosecution relies on weak circumstantial evidence that fails to meet the standard of proof. In December 2023, Charles is acquitted. This episode examines how investigative failures, missing forensic links, and reasonable doubt shaped a murder case—and leaves the unsettling question: if not Charles, then who killed Timothy?

SOCIALS

Insta: crimeandconske

Tiktok: crimesandconske

Facebook: Crime and Consequence KE

Youtube: Crime and Consequence KE

Lekupuri Leiyagu: A Fatal Shooting in Rumuruti | Crime and Consequences KE

In August 2017, Lekupuri Leiyagu was shot and killed in Rumuruti, Laikipia County, during a violent armed encounter. This episode examines the case of Republic v Sospeter Lomong'o Loriu, tracing what happened that day, the eyewitness accounts, the forensic evidence, and how the case moved through Kenya's High Court. In 2024, the court found the accused guilty of murder, closing a case that had remained largely undocumented. This episode highlights an underreported Kenyan murder case, the realities of gun violence, and the pursuit of justice years after the crime.

SUPPORT

Insta: crimeandconske

Tiktok: crimesandconske

Facebook: Crime and Consequence KE

Youtube: Crime and Consequence KE

Find us on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Afripods and Castbox

Florence Odhiambo Okinyo was the deceased in Republic v John Okinyo Otieno, a murder case arising from events of July 2022 in Siaya County, Kenya. The post-mortem examination established death due to blunt force trauma. The accused, her husband, was charged with murder under sections 203 and 204 of the Penal Code. In 2025, the High Court of Kenya held that the prosecution had proved the unlawful act, causation, and malice aforethought beyond reasonable doubt, and entered a conviction for murder. The case is cited in legal discussions on circumstantial evidence, domestic homicide, and the doctrine of "last seen with the deceased."

GENDER BASED VIOLENCE HOTLINE: 1195

National Sexual Assault Helplines

Gender Violence Recovery Centre (GVRC) 24 Hr Emergency Line

: +254 709 66 7000 or 719 63 8006

Gender Based Violence Hotline

: 1195

Coalition on Violence Against Women (COVAW)

: GBV Toll Free Line: 0800 720 553

National Domestic Violence Helplines

Gender Violence Recovery Centre (GVRC) 24 Hr Emergency Line

: +254 709 66 7000 or 719 63 8006

Gender Based Violence Hotline

: 1195

Coalition on Violence Against Women (COVAW)

: GBV Toll Free Line: 0800 720 553

Mary's Manger

: +254 722 679 167

Women's shelter

WEBSITE SOURCE: https://nomoredirectory.org/kenya/

In March 2015, what began as a night of cheap thrills in Simboyon Village ended in tragedy. Jackson Kimeli Koech had been drinking busaa and chang'aa with friends when a petty argument broke out — just ten shillings was enough to spark it. But in the haze of alcohol and tempers, the disagreement turned violent. Witnesses say Jackson stomped on James Kipkemei Koech's abdomen, leaving him badly injured.

James clung to life for ten days before dying in hospital. The post-mortem revealed the truth: blunt force trauma had ruptured his organs, leading to a slow, painful death. While the family mourned, Jackson vanished. For three years, he hid in Mau Narok until police finally tracked him down in 2018.

Brought to trial, Jackson faced a murder charge. His defense? That everyone was drunk, and maybe James had fallen on a stump or stone. But the court was not convinced. The judge ruled that Jackson's assault had directly caused James's death. Still, because the state could not prove malice aforethought, the charge was reduced. In 2021, Jackson was convicted of manslaughter — a lesser sentence, but one that left a family without answers and a village forever scarred.

Socials:

Tiktok: crimesandconske

Insta: crimeandconske

Facebook: Crime And Consequence KE

YouTube: Crime And Consequence KE

Email: crimeansconske@gmail.com

Paypal: njeriembugua7@gmail.com

In September 2013, 22-year-old Kenneth Thuita vanished just 30 meters from his home after helping his mother secure their livestock. What began as a missing person case quickly spiraled into a chilling mystery involving handwritten threats, ransom demands, and a white car seen idling near the family farm. Weeks later, Kenneth's remains were discovered in a remote bush in Silanga Village.

As police traced burner phones, forged IDs, and old grudges, five suspects were arrested and charged. But after years of a slow-moving trial filled with circumstantial evidence and contested confessions, only one man was found guilty.

In this episode, we unravel a decade long search for justice, the shocking gaps in the investigation, and a mother's painful quest for truth.

Listener discretion is strongly advised. This episode discusses the death of a minor.

In December 2016, the burnt remains of a baby were discovered near Athi River. What followed was a chilling investigation that revealed not only the child's identity but also pointed to an unimaginable suspect: his own mother, Everlyne Martha Opicho. This episode examines the disturbing case of JW's murder, the evidence that led to Everlyne's arrest and the painful questions that arise when the person meant to protect becomes the perpetrator.

Social Media

Instagram: crimeandconske

Tiktok: crimeandconske
